To find out who is supplying your gas, you can call the Transco Meter Point Reference Number Service with your gas meter serial number and address (you will need to know your postcode). They will give you your MPRN and current supplier.

If you want to carry on using the same supplier once you have found out who it is, you will need to call them and set up a new account in your name by providing your MPRN. Always double check your address and meter serial number with Transco – they are often labelled wrong.
If you want to change supplier, it is a good idea to call the previous supplier and inform them you are setting up a new account with someone else (just in case you get billed twice). Then you can set up a new account with a supplier of your choice.
A good website is: www.consumerfocus.org.uk which provides a comparison of suppliers and prices in your area for both electricity and gas.
Remember to make sure that the address given to the supplier is the correct one, as written on your tenancy agreement.
